Peter Chan

Peter Chan is a famous director, producer, leading figure in the Chinese Film Industry, and a member of The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Peter Chan has been in the film and television industry for over 30 years: his work trails through Hong Kong, mainland China, Hollywood, as well other countries and regions all over Asia. Works he had directed performs greatly in both expressions in art and the business horizons. Some examples include COMRADES: ALMOST A LOVE STORY, PERHAPS LOVE, AMERICAN DREAMS IN CHINA, DEAREST, and LEAP. Some films he had produced include SOUL MATE, THIS IS NOT WHAT I EXPECTED, which all had great reputation and excellent market performance, especially loved by the youth audience. He has been the Jury member of several film festivals including Venice International Film Festival, Beijing International Film Festival and Macau International Film Festival.

Zhang Ming

Zhang Ming is a film director, screenwriter, producer, and professor at Department of Directing at Beijing Film Academy. He is a member of China Film Directors’ Guild, Film Criticism Committee of China Film Association, and selection committee of Shanghai International Film Festival. His film HOT SOUP (2020, post-production) won the Most Creative Project Award at 2018 SIFF. THE MOMENT OF PLUTO was selected in Directors’ Fortnight section at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival. CHINA AFFAIR won 2013 SIFF Media Grand Prix. He is also the director and screenwriter of FOLK SONGS SINGING, which won five Golden Goblet Awards at the 2011 SIFF, including the Best Screenplay, Best Actress and Best Original Score. THE BRIDE (2009), BEFORE BORN (2006) and WEEKEND PLOT (2001) were selected in international film festivals including Tokyo, Busan, Berlinale, Los Angeles, IFFR, Seoul, Paris, Hong Kong, etc. In 2007, YUANZHANG BABA won Huabiao Award for Top 7 Excellent Chinese Digital Movies. IN EXPECTATION (1996) was official selection of Berlinale, New York, and San Francisco Film Festivals, winning 8 top prizes at Busan, Turin, Vancouver, etc. He has served as juror at many international and domestic film festivals, including China Directors Association Annual Commendation Conference honorary final judge, Busan International Film Festival, Buenos Aires Film Festival, Okinawa International Movie Festival, Silk Road Film Festival and Beijing College Student Film Festival, etc.

Cao Fei

Cao Fei, born in 1978 in Guangzhou, is one of the most innovative young Chinese artists who have emerged on the international scene. Cao Fei’s works have been exhibited at a number of international biennales and triennales, including Shanghai Biennale, Moscow Biennale, Taipei Biennale, the 15th & 17th Biennale of Sydney, Istanbul Biennial, Yokohama Triennale, and the 50th, 52nd & 56th Venice Biennale. Exhibitions and screenings of her work have taken place at Tate Modern in London and Serpentine Gallery, Whitechapel Gallery, New Museum, Guggenheim Museum, and MoMA; Centre Pompidou in Paris, Palais de Tokyo and Foundation Louis Vuitton. In 2016, Cao Fei held her first solo exhibition in MoMA PS1, New York. Cao Fei’s recent projects include a solo show at Tai Kwun Contemporary in Hong Kong (2018) and a retrospective exhibition at K21 Düsseldorf (2018), a solo exhibition at Centre Pompidou, Paris (2019), an Augmented Reality Art Project by APPLE and New Museum New York (2019)，a solo exhibition at Serpentine Gallery, London(2020). Her future projects will include a solo exhibition at MAXXI, the National Museum of 21st Century Arts in Rome and UCCA Center for Contemporary Art in Beijing. She was a nominee for the Future Generation Art Prize 2010 and the finalist of Hugo Boss Prize 2010. She received the Chinese Contemporary Art Award (CCAA) Best Young Artist Award in 2006 and Best Artist Award in 2016. She was also the recipient of Piedra de Sal Award at Cuenca Biennale in 2016.

Hao Lei

Hao Lei is a famous actress, she graduated from Shanghai Theatre Academy majoring in Acting. She entered the film arena in 1994 and was known for her role in SEVENTEEN NO CRY, SISTERS, and THE SON OF HEAVEN. Since 2006, the films she starred were selected in Cannes, Berlinale and Venice Film Festival for many times. EMPIRE OF SILVER won the 29th Hawaii International Film Festival Grand Prix. In 2010, she won Best Supporting Actress of Golden Horse Awards for her role in THE FOURTH PORTRAIT. In 2012, Hao Lei starred in the film MYSTERY which was nominated at the Cannes International Film Festival for the Un Certain Regard Award as well as the Golden Horse Award for Best Supporting Actress. In 2014, a film Hao Lei starred AREST not only raised great public awareness, but also prompted the revision of a law in China. In 2015, she was a juror of the 18^th Shanghai International Film Festival. In 2018, she was nominated Best Leading Actress for The Magnolia Award for the television show THE LOVE OF COURTYARD. In 2019, SPRING TIDE, a film she was the leading actress for, was selected in the 13^th FIRST International Film Festival as well as the 22th Shanghai International Film Festival.

Kong Jinlei

Since 1997, Kong Jinlei has led the editing work in over 30 films and set up lectures at many Art Institutions. In 2012, she served as a jury member for the 49th Golden Horse Awards. Her work RHAPSODY OF SPRING (1999) was nominated for the 19th Golden Rooster Award for Best Film Editing; in 2009, COW was nominated for Best Editing at 46th Taiwan Golden Horse Awards; and in 2014, her work BLIND MASSAGE won the 51st Taiwan Golden Horse Award in Best Film Editing. Her main works include CALA, MY DOG!, NUAN, PLATFORM, STILL LIFE, US AND THEM, and THE WILD GOOSE LAKE.

Zhao Nan

Zhao Nan, recording artist. She is a member of China Film Association, The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and the Motion Picture Sound Editors Committee. Her works include DETECTIVE DEE AND THE MYSTERY OF THE PHANTOM FLAME, PAINTED SKIN: THE RESURRECTION, THE GREAT HYPNOTIST, SOUL ON A STRING, etc, and these work have been awarded with and nominated for China Golden Rooster Award, Hong Kong Film Award, Golden Horse Award, China Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers Award for best sound editing. In 2018, she worked as the Sound Director for the film SHADOW directed by Zhang Yimou and won the 13th Asian Film Award for Best Sound Design.

Liu Heng

Liu Heng, born in Beijing in 1954, is a well-known writer and screenwriter. He is the Chief Editor of BEIJING LITERATURE, Dean of Beijing Laoshe School of Literature, president of Beijing Writers Association, vice president of Chinese Writers Association, standing member of Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference. In 1986, his novel DOGSHIT FOOD was well-received, and was awarded Excellent Short Novel of 1985-1986. He has also written long novels BLACK SNOW, XIAO YAO SONG, WHIRLPOOL, etc; short stories XIAO SHIMO, JIAO YU SHI, etc. In 1988, he started writing scripts for cinema, television, and theatre. He wrote the scripts of BLACK SNOW, JUDOU, ASSEMBLY, THE FLOWERS OF WAR, THIS WAR OF MINE, etc, and scripts for TV series such as THE SON OF HEAVEN. Many of which have received awards from national and international film festivals and have been awarded. He has received the Lu Xun Literature Prize, Beijing Literature and Art Award, Lao She Literature Award, Golden Eagle Award for Best Screenwriter, 21st Flying Apsaras Award for Screenwriting, the 35th Valladolid International Film Festival Golden Harvest Award as well as the 63rd Academy Awards nomination for Best Foreign Language Film.

Gu Tao

Gu Tao, independent documentary filmmaker. He was born in 1970 in Inner Mongolia, China and now base in Songzhuang, Beijing. Since 2005, Gu started making documentaries focusing on dying traditions and ways of life, and how marginalized groups are adapting to the modern world. His films AOLUGUYA (2007), ECLIPSE OF THE GODS (2011), BULLET FROM NOWHERE (2014) have screened and won awards at many international and domestic film festivals. THE LAST MOOSE OF AO LU GU YA (2013) was nominated for Best Documentary at 51st Golden Horse Awards and won the Jury Prize for Documentary at 38th Hong Kong International Film Festival. YUGUO AND HIS MOTHER (2010) won Shinsuke Ogawa Award at YIDFF.

THE FOOLISH BIRD (2017) won the Special Jury Award at the Berlin International Film Festival’s Generation Kplus Section and Best Artistic Originality Award at FIRST international Film Festival; EGG AND STONE (2012) was awarded Golden Tiger Award at Rotterdam International Film Festival and Best Picture Award at Andrei Tarkovsky International Film Festival; THE WARMTH OF ORANGE PEEL (2010) was nominated for Best Picture at Berlin International Film Festival’s Generation Plus’s Short Film Section.

Wang Xiaolu

Wang Xiaolu, film critic, curator, PhD in Cinema Studies. Wang graduated from Beijing Film Academy and is now working at the China Film Archive, researching on Chinese cinema history and culture. He has published FILM AND TIMES DISEASES (2008), FILM POLITICS (2014), THE WILL OF FILM (2019). He is now a column writer of THE ECONOMIC OBSERVER, BEIJING DAILY and was jury member and film selector in many film festivals including China Independent Film Festival and Beijing Independent Film Festival. Wang has also co-curated Glasgow University’s ‘Film and Memory’ film forum (2012) and New York University’s Real China Biennale (2019).

Jane Zheng

Jane Zheng worked in radio and television as presenter and producer for many years before receiving her MA in TV journalism at Goldsmiths College, University of London. After graduation, Jane started in the film industry with the founding of Seesaw Production. She has worked as a producer and executive producer in GASP, RED LIGHT REVOLUTION, KING OF PEKING, DEAD PIGS and THE FAREWELL. DEAD PIGS (dir. Cathy Yan) won the Special Jury Award at Sundance International Film Festival in 2018 and THE FAREWELL starred by Awkwafina was premiered at Sundance. It later won the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress (Musical or Comedy) and Film Independent Spirit Awards for Best Feature and Best Supporting Female.

Liu Xin

Liu Xin is an award-winning documentary filmmaker. Earned her M.A. Degree from New York University, she has produced, filmed and edited four feature-length documentaries, that have included: PEOPLE’S REPUBLIC OF DESIRE (2018 SXSW Film Festival Grand Jury Award Winner, 2018 DocEdge Award Winner, 2018 IDA Creative Recognition Award Nominee), COMPLICIT (2017 FIFDH Paris Best Film Award Winner), 7% (2017 Guangzhou International Documentary Film Festival Golden Kapok Award Finalist), and SUPER GRANDPA GANG (the Top 10 Pitching Projects at 2017GZDOC). Xin’s works have screened at over 50 film festivals worldwide. Her latest film, THE BLUE DEFENSIVE LINE, is about a Chinese peacekeeping infantry battalion in troubled South Sudan. Mu Zijian is a documentary filmmaker based in China. He received his Master’s degree in News and Documentary from New York University. His graduate thesis film ONE CHILD about the aftermath of the 2008 Sichuan Earthquake in China won the 41st Student Academy Award and was shortlisted for the 87^th Academy Award for Best Documentary Short subject. His recent works includes producing THE EVE OF TOMORROW (Tencent, Grain Media), a documentary series that travels the world and meets the people at the front of some of the most controversial questions facing the future of the human race. He has also made documentaries for THE ECONOMIST, CNN, Vice on HBO and Shearwater Films.

Wu Linfeng, born in 1989, Hengyang, Hunan. He graduated from Lasalle College of The Art in Singapore. During his time in college, his short film DOUBLE HAPPINESS and TIGHTROPE had been traveling around the world to several international short film festivals. Wu went back to Beijing in 2013, running his own studio Magic Lamp Pictures. In 2016, his film WHITE BIRD had been selected by 63th Berlinale Film festival, Short Film Competition; In 2019 , his film FROM TOMORROW ON, I WILL… had been selected by 66th Berlinale Film Festival Forum section, FIRST Film Festival, Jeonju Film festival and other 10 more film festivals. Zhu Yantong

Zhu Yantong, an independent animation filmmaker, picture book author, curator and art director of Feinaki Beijing Animation Week. Her animated film MY MILK CUP COW has won numerous awards all over the world, such as Grand Prix of KROK, Young Animation Award of Stuttgart. She curated ‘Metaphor of Metamorphosis’ the 7th China Independent Animation Film Forum in 2018. In 2019, she started Feinaki Beijing Animation Week as one of the founders. She was also invited as a jury member of BIAF and Tricky Women Festival.
