Sylvia Chang
Sylvia Chang started her acting career in the 1970s in Taiwan and Hong Kong. In over 40 years of her career, she has starred more than 100 films. She earned her first Taiwan Golden Horse Award for Best Supporting Actress with PROSPERITY AND PERPLEXITY (1976). Following this honor was Golden Horse Award for the Best Leading Actress with MY GRANDFATHER (1981). Since then, she received many nominations and awards in different film festivals and her acting performance has been highly acclaimed. Sylvia is also an influential scriptwriter and film director. Since 1981, she has directed 13 films not only popular in Hong Kong and Taiwan but also recognized internationally. Her films were invited to different international film festivals, including the Berlin International Film Festival, London Film Festival, Toronto International Film Festival, and Busan International Film Festival. Her latest directed film is HERO in 2021. Devoted to nurturing the new generation, Sylvia has established the Gosh Foundation in 1988. The foundation aims to encourage and lead young artists to develop in the creative industry. In 2010-2013, she was the vice-chairperson of the board of directors of the Hong Kong International Film Festival Society. From 2011-2014, she was the president of the Taipei Film Festival. In 2014-2018, she was the chairperson of the executive committee of the Taipei Golden Horse Film Festival. She is currently a member of the Fund Vetting Committee under the Hong Kong Film Development Council. In recognition of her contribution to the art industry, she received an Award for Outstanding Contribution in Arts from the Hong Kong Arts Development Council in 2018.
