My grandma is more than 90 years old, and she has experienced many hardships of that era when she was young, and she is a powerful woman. But now to me, she is a neglected mystery.
The second uncle was the ingrate man in my grandma's mouth. He passed away a few years ago. The family was afraid that she could not bear the pain of losing her son, so they lied that the second uncle is still undergoing rehabilitation in Guangzhou. In the first few years,my grandmother often asked about the second uncle's situation, and everyone lied. In the past two years, my grandma never mentioned her little son to us again.

Our story originated from the non-fiction network novel BLACK LOAN, adapted based on our undercover experience in the online lending circle so far. The monkey, the son of Awubaji, was named Ranbiwa. The clan built up an altar for the White Stone, and worshiped it devotely.
The Ice Age everlasting. After growing up, Ranbiwa was sent to the Holy Mountain, companied with a female wolf named “GOGO”. There were beast and monster, maze and moat, frost and other crises along the way. As time goes by, Ranbiwa learnt how to walk upright and felt the glamour of the fire. Finally, he arrived at the cave in the Holy Mountain. There were White Stones laying in the fire. He was aware of the secret of "warmth" at that moment. Suddenly, the monster in the cave woke up and attacked him. Just like the way it attacked Awubaji many years ago. GOGO risked her life to save Ranbiwa while suffering from the fire.

When I was 11, Dad was diagnosed as the late stage of stomach cancer. Since then, I have been trying my best to be the top student in school and in real life, as Mom’s enjoinder. 10 years later, cancer reappeared and took Dad’s life shortly after three months. During the 10 years of him struggling with illness, the only silver lining in his life was when I got into Peking University. On that day, he drank as an exception. Before he passed away, he put a bank card on my hand, encouraging me to study film abroad. Instead, I stayed to take care of Mom.
And that’s 10 years ago. Now I finally nerve myself to write down what happened to me and my family: during her summer, an 11-year-old girl goes through a series of catastrophe in her family yet nobody gives her the reason to everthing behind. The reason I present the narrative through a young girl’s perspective is to plant the film in a delicate and natural experience without too much catharsis for the audience and for myself. Thus, this is a work of bluring the border of fiction and documenting with a faithful, honest and emotional touch.
In this film, I compress my memories and sensibiliy into a specific summer, as a commemoration to Dad and myself.
