At age 14, Kara was discovered by the famous director Chang Cheh and was signed as a junior actress of Shaw Brothers Pictures International Limited. THE LEGEND OF THE CONDOR HEROES was her first acting debut. In 1982, Kara won the Best Actress in the 1st Hong Kong Film Awards for her role in the film MY YOUNG AUNTIE. Kara is one of the few Best Actress awardees who film action films. In 2009, Kara won the Best Actress for the 2nd time in the 29th Hong Kong Film Awards for her role in the film AT THE END OF DAYBREAK. In 2017, Kara won the Best Actress for the 3rd time for her role in the film HAPPINESS. Other than acquiring the 36th Hong Kong Film Awards’ Best Actress, HAPPINESS also brought her many international film awards. In the same year, her role Mrs. Tang in the film THE BOLD, THE CORRUPT, AND THE BEAUTIFUL brought her the Best Actress of the 54th Golden Horse Awards, making her a “Two Best Actress Prizes Awardee”. In 2018, Kara won the Outstanding Asian Filmmaker Award of the 12th of the Asia Film Awards. Kara is no doubt a Hall of Fame class actress.

Ma Yingli

Scriptwriter, director, producer and executive producer. In 1996, Ma Yingli wrote and directed the feature film DAYS OF MIANDI, which was shortlisted for the Munich International Film Festival and selected for screening at the 33rd Taipei Golden Horse Film Festival. She later directed a number of documentaries. In 2000, She started working with director Lou Ye. She worked as the French assistant producer of SUZHOU RIVER, co-writer of SUMMER PALACE, THE SHADOW PLAY, scriptwriter of BLIND MASSAGE and SATURDAY FICTION. She is also the producer and executive producer of SATURDAY FICTION. BLIND MASSAGE won the Silver Bear Award for Outstanding Artistic Contribution in the 64th Berlin International Film Festival. It received six awards, including “Best Adapted Screenplay” at the 51st Taipei Golden Horse Film Festival. Her work SATURDAY FICTION was selected to compete at the 76th Venice International Film Festival and premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival. Ma Yingli is now working on Lou Ye’s new film as co-scriptwriter and producer.

La Frances Hui

La Frances Hui is the Curator of Film at The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York. Since she joined MoMA in 2015, she has organized retrospectives of film artists including Lee Chang-dong, Andrey Zvyagintsev, Federico Fellini, Tsai Ming-Liang, Tomu Uchida, Bruce Lee, Mark Lee Ping-Bing, Mahmoud Kalari, as well as surveys of Indian, Philippine, and Latin American cinemas. She became a member of New Directors/New Films’ selection committee in 2016, and has led the annual festival that features emerging talents as the co-chair since 2020. She is a member of the editorial board for post: notes on art in a global context (post.moma.org), for which she has contributed essays. Prior to joining MoMA, Hui was a film curator at Asia Society New York where she presented series examining independent Chinese film, Thai cinema, Iranian cinema, among others. She was the co-curator of the Asian American International Film Festival in 2013. Hui has served on award juries for Sundance Film Festival, Busan International Film Festival, Udine Far East Film Festival, Hong Kong International Film Festival, and has spoken at New York University, Museum of the Moving Image, Stony Brook University, among others.
