Nicholas Tse

Actor, singer, music composer, celebrity chef, entrepreneur. In 1996, Nicholas Tse made his debut as a singer at the age of 16. At 18, he gained recognition as the Best New Actor at the 18th Hong Kong Film Awards for his performance in his first film, YOUNG AND DANGEROUS: THE PREQUEL. In 2010, he won the Best Supporting Actor award at the 29th Hong Kong Film Awards for his role in the film BODYGUARDS AND ASSASSINS. In 2011, he won the Best Actor award at the 30th Hong Kong Film Awards for his performance in the film THE STOOL PIGEON, becoming the first post-80s actor to receive this prestigious accolade. In 2014, he embarked on a new venture by hosting the variety show CHEF NIC, which combined reality TV, advertising, and short films, while also establishing his own brand “Chef Nic.” In 2021, he was nominated for Best Supporting Actor at the 34th Golden Rooster Awards for his role in RAGING FIRE, and he also received the Best Actor award at the 13th Macau International Movie Festival.

Christopher Doyle

Cinematographer and director. Christopher Doyle was born in Sydney, Australia in 1952. He studied at the University of Sydney, majoring in literature, and later attended the New Asia College at the Chinese University of Hong Kong and the Department of Fine Arts at the University of Maryland, USA. In 1981, he served as the director of cinematographer for the film THAT DAY, ON THE BEACH, which earned him the Best Cinematography award at the 28th Asian Pacific Film Festival. In 1999, he directed his debut film AWAY WITH WORDS. His representative works include DAYS OF BEING WILD, IN THE MOOD FOR LOVE, 2046, CHUNGKING EXPRESS, ASHES OF TIME, AMERICAN DREAMS IN CHINA, ONDINE, RED ROSE WHITE ROSE, FALLEN ANGELS, HERO and EROS. He has received numerous awards, including Best Cinematography at the Hong Kong Film Awards and the Golden Horse Awards. He also won the Best Cinematography award at the 51st Venice International Film Festival and several other international accolades.

Actress, the member of the China Film Association. In 2006, she starred in the film CURIOSITY KILLS THE CAT and was nominated for Best Supporting Actress at the 26th Golden Rooster Awards. In 2013, she won the Best Actress award at the 29th Golden Rooster Awards for her leading role in the film FALLING FLOWERS. In 2016, she received the Annual Actress award at the 7th China Film Directors’ Guild for her leading role in the film THE FINAL MASTER, as well as the Best Actress award at the 1st Macau International Movie Festival and a nomination for Best Actress at the 23rd Beijing College Student Film Festival. In 2017, her film THE CONFORMIST was selected in the 20th Shanghai International Film Festival. In 2018, her film THE POET was selected in the 31st Tokyo International Film Festival. In 2019, her film THE SHADOW PLAY was selected in the Panorama section at the Berlinale.

Director and producer. In 2004, Leste Chen directed the short film UNINHIBITED, which was shortlisted for the Venice International Film Critics’ Week competition and the Tokyo International Film Festival’s Winds of Asia competition. In 2005, he directed his first feature film, THE HEIRLOOM. In 2006, he won the New Currents Award at the 11th Busan International Film Festival for his romantic film ETERNAL SUMMER. In 2011, he directed the romantic comedy LOVE ON CREDIT. In 2014, he was nominated for Best Director and Best Screenwriter at the 15th Chinese Film Media Awards for his suspense-filled drama THE GREAT HYPNOTIST. In 2015, he directed the bizarre comedy 20 ONCE AGAIN. In 2016, he produced the crime romance ONE NIGHT ONLY. In 2017, he directed the crime thriller BATTLE OF MEMORIES. In 2021, the suspense film HOME SWEET HOME directed by him, and his coming-of-age film UPCOMING SUMMER released.

His main research areas include western thoughts, modern western political philosophy and contemporary issues, contemporary ideological trends in eastern and western society and international political relations. His works include books such as THE WEST SINCE 2000, LECTURES ON MODERN WESTERN THOUGHT, BEING A CONSCIOUS MODERN INDIVIDUAL, UNRESOLVED MOMENTS etc. He has served as a mentor in the 7th season of the TV program You Can You BB and is the also the instructor for the online courses WESTERN MODERN THOUGHT and Annual Frontiers of Thought Report. In 2021, he was honored as the ‘Men of the Year-Most Rational Voice’ in the selection by GENTLEMEN’S QUARTERLY.

Guan Tian

Guan Tian earned his MFA degrees in filmmaking from Syracuse University and CalArts. As a filmmaker, Tian likes to explore the power shift between individuals and social groups. His short films received awards at Warsaw Film Festival, LA Film Fest, Leeds Film Festival, Gijon Film Festival, San Diego Asian Film Festival, etc. Other festival screenings including Montreal, Moscow, Slamdance, ZINEBI, Palm Springs, DokuFest, etc. Now he works on his first feature script THE POISON CAT which was selected to CineMart, EAVE Ties That Bind, FIRST Film Lab and received three awards at 21st HAF.

Li Jianeng

Cinematographer. Li Jianeng is born in Chongqing in 1992. He graduated from the Fine Arts School Affiliated to China Central Academy of Fine Arts and pursued a major in Cinematography at the Beijing Film Academy. In 2018, he collaborated with director Na Jiazuo as the director of cinematography for the film GAEY WA’R. This debut feature film was selected for the Un Certain Regard at the 74th Cannes Film Festival and won the Best Artistic Originality at the 16th FIRST International Film Festival. Since then, he has worked with directors Sha Mo, Bi Gan, and Na Jiazuo on a series of highly stylized short films. Among them, the most notable ones are KIDS OF PARADISE by Sha Mo, A SHORT STORY by Bi Gan, and SOLOS by Na Jiazuo. A SHORT STORY was also selected for the Short Film Competition at the 75th Cannes Film Festival.

Tong Shan

Film curator, scholar, and documentary producer. She works as a programmer for the Beijing International Short Film Festival. She has selected films for several film festivals in China, including the FIRST International Film Festival, IM Cross-Strait Film Festival, and Hi Shorts! Film Festival. In 2022, she collaborated with Ma Ran (Associate Professor at Nagoya University) to curate a Chinese-language short film program titled “Qingnian Express” for the 36th Image Forum Festival. The program featured 27 Chinese-language short films by young filmmakers, including Bi Gan and Hu Bo. It was a collective showcase of Chinese-language short films in Japan in recent years. Tong’s research focuses on documentary theory and practice, Chinese cinemas, transnational filmmaking practice of Chinese independent documentary and art film, and film festival culture. She currently works at Communication University of China.
