LOU Ye
Lou Ye is a Chinese independent film director, who graduated from Department of Directing at Beijing Film Academy in 1989. He is known as one of the representatives of the sixth-generation film directors of China. Lou has directed twelve films in total from his debut Weekend Lover (Zhou Mo Qing Ren) to Suzhou River (Su Zhou He), Summer Palace (Yi He Yuan), Spring Fever (Chun Feng Chen Zui De Ye Wan), Blind Massage (Tui Na), and the latest A Rain Cloud in the Sky (Feng Zhong You Duo Yu Zuo De Yun). In the recent thirty years, though his works were rarely shown in China, they had been constantly winning awards in film festivals around the world. Suzhou River won Tiger Award at The 29th International Film Festival Rotterdam and Grand Prix at The 15th Paris Film Festival, and it was selected as the top ten best films of 2000 by TIME magazine. Purple Butterfly (Zi Hu Die) was nominated by The 56th Cannes Film Festival for Palme d’Or in 2003; Summer Palace drew wide attention in 2006; His comeback work Spring Fever was nominated for Palme d’Or; Mystery (Fu Cheng Mi Shi) was nominated by The 49th Golden Horse Film Festival for the Best Director Award; Blind Massage was nominated by The 64th Berlin International Film Festival for Golden Bear, and won six awards including Best Feature Film Award at The 51st Golden Horse Film Festival. He directed the film A Rain Cloud in the Sky in 2016.
