Synopsis
In the northern town covered in heavy snow, everyone tacitly adheres to a principle of not speaking. He Yishan doesn’t understand why birds can sing, but humans cannot speak. She expressed herself ‘loudly’ in her own way, and her sister He Yizhou worked hard to protect everything. Two girls are like free souls floating above a small town. As the millennium approaches, this freedom drifts with the wind, and everything about freedom and bravery is engraved in the hearts of young girls.

Director's statement
Shanxi is my grandfather’s hometown. His children left one after another when they were young. It wasn’t until his death that they slowly returned to their hometown. Watching them strive to find “roots” and traces of blood in the county and villages, I can always recall one of the few lives in Shanxi. Lying on the roof with my grandfather and watching the sunset in summer is the only memory I have left of my grandfather. The crimson sunset melted me into memories, and I tried to emulate the adults by capturing memories of Shanxi as much as possible and searching for my own “roots”. This graduation work tells the story of a girl who wants to leave the village and go to a more free sky, while outside the play, I want to take this opportunity to return to the village and find the most sincere and irreplaceable emotions.
