The story and characters are very solid. Through representing the past between a man and a dog, it discusses how one should face those regrets in the past and the present that never leave.

Summary Of The Story:

On a summer day in the grasslands of Northern Xinjiang, Arxin, a Kazakh boy, and Meiyu, a Han girl, are about to part. Arxin tells Meiyu about his nomadic family memories via herbarium collections, expressing hazy and intimate feelings for her. In the end, faced with Meiyu's departure, Arxin seems to understand how to patiently "grow" like plants in nature.

Director's Statement:

In the 1960s, my grandparents came from the south of inland to settle down in Northern Xinjiang, where is my hometown. In the border area, people from different ethnic groups lived together and influenced each other. The cultural integration has always been miracle of this land. Once by chance, a friend who studied botany in Xinjiang talked with me about the unique“wisdom”of plants. Then I realized how profound but easily overlooked the relationship between plants and human beings is. I hope to take this opportunity to explore the relationship between the mystery of plant growth in the nature of Northern Xinjiang and the living state of border nationalities. I wish that every child who leaves or stays in the grassland can gain the original enlightenment from plant growth when facing their fate.
