Synopsis
The 13-year-old Xu Coco was sent to the best junior middle school in Beijing with great expectations from her mum. However, Xu Coco became the poorest student in the class, and then she lived a hard school life. Zhang Mengchen, a girl who transferred from another school, Xu Coco was attracted by her sexy and beautiful appearance, and she became Coco’s only friend. Xu Coco had a crush on Chen Wenhao, who scored first place in the class. After several twists and turns, Zhang Mengchen got a chance to group Chen Wenhao for study. Because Xu Coco couldn’t withstand the difficult school life, she set them up and exposed their early love, and the gangs of their classmates bullied Zhang Mengchen. Xu Coco felt regret so much, and she chose to commit suicide.

Director's statement
Xu Coco was burdened by the hope of her mother who represented the first generation of Chinese parents having started to have a great expectation of their children. The parents started to realize their children shouldn’t be beaten on the starting line, and the only way to improve their social status was to fight for the right of enrollment by a good school. The anxieties generated from their parents and from the school and the pressure from the fierce competitions among their schoolmates, all together became a real background portrayal of the cruel youth of those big city children. At the same time, the arrival of adolescence was like a blooming flower having disturbed a pool of spring water. However, the girl’s secret minds could not be tolerated by this educational environment which defined people’s grades according to their exam marks. Between friendship and love, how should she choose?
