Synopsis
An elderly couple came to Beijing from a remote hometown to see their only son, who lives in Beijing. The parents wanted to see their son’s new house and their son bought the train tickets for them. But when they arrived at Beijing railway station, their son did not show up, and there was nobody to come to pick them up. The parents were completely at a loss. They decided to go looking for their son’s home. Lost in the night of Beijing, lost in the promise of their son, and lost in contemporary china, the parents were wondering where their son’s home was. They did not find their son for the whole night. Eventually, they came to Tian’anmen Square, which they had been longing for all the time. They looked at the portrait of Chairman Mao. The old man said: I will never ever come to Beijing again.
