Synopsis
Xiaozhang , who divorced for many years, went away from hometown –Cangshan- in order to escape the past. She works as a cleaner in Shanghai, and also needs to take care of her rebellious son and her sick mother. After experienced the difficult life in a strange city, she decided to return to her hometown, but then she found the hometown has changed its name.
Zhang Fan
Graduated from Stage Art of Shanghai Theatre Academy，he has served as the art director of many films, and won the “Best Fine Arts Nomination Awards of the 30th Golden Rooster Award” and “Best Fine Arts Award of the Greek International Film Festival”. He has created two original screenplays named LIKE WINDS, LIKE WEEDS and HOLIDAY, which won the “China Good Story and Producer Co-recommended Award of the Golden Rooster Film Festival Venture Capital” and “Best Creative Story Award of China International Children's Film Festival Venture Capital”，and shortlisted “Project of Shanghai International Film Festival”. He directed his first film named LIKE WINDS, LIKE WEEDS in 2023.
Director's statement
“Cangshan” is a place name that has disappeared. It is located in the south of Shandong Province. It was renamed from “Cangshan” county to “Lanling” County in 2014. This place is my hometown. A person who has been wandering away for many years was told that his hometown had been renamed when he returned to his hometown. It felt very complicated at that moment. The place, the time and the group of people are forgotten. In comparison with the forgotten, I pay more attention to the Struggle for freedom. What is freedom? It is the separation from the past, or the peace of mind to face the reality, or the rebirth. The film is a story of struggling between home and abroad, past and future.
